In winter, you can test your skills on icy roads at one of the world-renowned winter driving centers—or follow a reindeer caravan across the frozen wild.
Just northeast lies Vidsel, where the landscape opens up into one of Europe’s least disturbed boreal forests. Here, explorers can wander far from the beaten path, perhaps catching the roar of the Pite River as it crashes through the Storforsen rapids—the largest unregulated waterfall in Scandinavia. To the far west, tucked close to the Norwegian border, you’ll find Klimpfjäll—a remote mountain village nestled in the shadow of the Stekenjokk plateau.
